Bugged

I am being bugged. What specifically is bugging me is a lack of knowledge. Not generally, but quite specifically. Somebody wrote an opera. I realise that many people have written operas, but this opera there was a small part of in a programme featuring Howard Goodall regarding the most influencial people in 20th music. It features a hero who I believe is called Denis. It is, at least to some extent, set in a pub. This is, other than the fact that the heroine was wearing a yellow top, is all I know. I can’t remember what it is called, and I can’t remember who wrote it. This is naturally bugging me. I also, given the amount of information which I have available, do not suppose that anyone knows the answer :-(

    Richard,

It has taken me very little time to track down what you are looking for, and seeing that one of your favourite things to do is surf the net, I am very surprised that you have not been able to find out this information for yourself. I can only think that in fact you like to be bugged by your need to know something, rather than getting off your arse and finding out. Here is a weblink to the programme you were watching…

The only opera mentioned within the timeline (see tab on left of page) are Candide by Leonard Bernstein. It could have been this one, but seeing the lack of information you have given your audience, I couldn’t say this is in fact the opera you are thinking of. The only other option is that you are on the quest to not find out the name of an opera at all but to find out the name of a Musical. In which case I think you should thoroughly read the site I have sent you and see if it jogs your memory. I am so good to you. I am over the otherside of the world and I still take time to help you out.

Unfortunately my darling, I had found that site already and it doesn’t appear to refer to the musical/opera in question. Which is a terrible shame. I think I shall have to wait until the DVD of the series is released and watch it to see.

    The corrected link is here:

    Richard,
It seems likely however that Bernstein wrote the opera. Why don’t you research him and the opera’s he has written and then you could see if you recognise any of the plot lines. Its tricky as you know little about the opera, but its worth a shot eh?
